This exercise demonstrates for students that the meaning and clarity of a sentence depends entirely on how the words are organized. Write out each word in the sentence on an individual\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.post-it.com\/3M\/en_US\/post-it\/products\/?N=4327+5927575+3294529207+3294857497&amp;rt=r3\" title=\"null\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Post-it\u00ae Note<\/a>. Allow students to disagree, and refrain from coaching them until they have decided on a final order.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.teacherlists.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/0324-post-it-sentence-order-step-4-body.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16646\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MMM--media-bd MMM--media-bd_wrap\">\n<div class=\"MMM--wysiwyg\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Read the sentence aloud as it appears. Ask students if there are any changes they would like to make. Use errors as a starting point to discuss specific issues with word order, and rearrange the Post-it\u00ae Notes as you resolve each issue.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This technique is a perfect way to introduce basic concepts in syntax for students who don\u2019t yet know the names of the parts of speech.
