This art project involves a fun element of surprise using watercolor and crayon resist techniques. Using a straw to blow paint across the paper, students will gradually reveal a hidden spider web design as layers of watercolor build and blend. Once complete, the artwork is left to dry, and students will see their colorful spiderwebs come to life.<\/p>\n

Instructions<\/strong>
\n1. With a pencil, lightly draw your spiderweb shape on mixed media paper.<\/p>\n

\n2. Erase pencil lines so you can barely see where the spiderweb was drawn.<\/p>\n

3. Draw over the erased lines with a white crayon. Make sure to go over each line a few times to make sure the line is solid (this will help resist the watercolor better).<\/p>\n

\n4. Use a pipette to add water to watercolors of your choice, and use a paintbrush to mix the water and paint in the palette.<\/p>\n

\n5. Use a pipette or syringe to transfer the paint from the palette to the paper. If you do not have those, you can use a brush to do so.<\/p>\n

\n6. Blow the paint across the paper with a straw. Turn your paper and blow from different directions to cover the page and expose the crayon-resist spider web. Continue to add watercolor until you\u2019ve achieved your desired result and most of the spider web is revealed. Allow watercolor to dry.<\/p>\n

\n7. Use a paintbrush and tempera paint to add any spooky additions to the spider web, such as a spider or other bugs.<\/p>\n
