GYM SHOES - ALL GRADES Gym shoes should be athletic shoes that have a good arch support and stay on the feet. Running, cross training and basketball shoes are the best. The shoes may be tie or Velcro, not slip on. Some of the types of shoes that are not allowed in PE class are: slip on, zipper only, shoes with no back, dress shoes, dress boots, hiking boots, heelies, shoes without tops, crocs, sandals, shoes without strings (except Velcro), backless shoes and knee high shoes. There are many shoes, especially for the girls, that are making a fashion statement rather than being appropriate athletic shoes. Choose a shoe that your child can move safely in during gym class.
